Assumptions

  • Actual GST credits, deductions, BAS treatment and final tax liability can differ from this estimate.
  • The income-tax reserve percentage is a flat rate you choose, not a calculated marginal rate.
  • Only the figures for the selected period are set aside; the annualised figure is for reference only.
  • This is not GST, BAS or tax advice — consult a registered tax agent.

How this calculator works

Separate the money that is never really yours. This calculator splits GST-inclusive receipts into their GST component and revenue, subtracts deductible expenses and applies your chosen income-tax reserve percentage to estimate what to park in a separate account.

Rates sourced from the Australian Taxation Office for the 2026–27 financial year. Last reviewed 01/07/2026.

Frequently asked questions

What reserve percentage should I choose?

Many sole traders set aside 25–30% of profit, but the right number depends on your marginal rate, other income and deductions.

How is the GST component worked out?

For GST-inclusive receipts the GST portion is the total divided by 11. For GST-exclusive amounts it is 10% on top.

Does this account for GST credits?

No. Credits on your business purchases reduce what you owe at BAS time, so your actual liability is usually lower.
