Assumptions
- This is an estimate only, not an exact PAYG withholding calculation.
- Models the single-person low-income Medicare levy phase-in. Family and SAPTO thresholds, exemptions and the surcharge are not modelled.
- Salary sacrifice reduces taxable income but is not paid as cash.
- HELP repayment is capped at the remaining debt balance.
How this calculator works
Enter your gross salary and this calculator subtracts 2026–27 resident income tax, the low income tax offset, the optional 2% Medicare levy, any compulsory HELP repayment and salary sacrifice to estimate what actually lands in your bank account each pay.
Rates sourced from the Australian Taxation Office for the 2026–27 financial year. Last reviewed 14/08/2026.
What is deducted from take-home pay in 2026–27
Take-home pay is the part of your gross salary left after the deductions modelled by the calculator. That can include resident income tax, the Medicare levy, compulsory HELP repayments and salary sacrifice, depending on the options you select.
The calculator then converts the annual result into common Australian pay cycles so you can compare the estimate with weekly, fortnightly or monthly pay.
- Gross annual salary before deductions
- Estimated income tax and Medicare levy
- Optional HELP repayment impact
- Estimated net pay by common pay frequency
Why the result may not exactly match a payslip
Payroll systems generally calculate withholding per pay period, while this calculator starts from an annual estimate. Rounding, allowances, bonuses, multiple jobs, tax-free-threshold choices and payroll adjustments can therefore create small differences.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as my payslip?
Not exactly. Employers use PAYG withholding schedules that round differently and may apply extra variations, so treat this as an annual estimate.
How does salary sacrifice change the result?
Sacrificed amounts reduce your taxable income, which lowers income tax, the Medicare levy and any HELP repayment.
Is the low income tax offset applied?
Yes. LITO of up to $700 is applied automatically and phases out at $66,667 of taxable income.
