How this calculator works
Energy added to the battery is battery capacity multiplied by the change in state of charge. Because charging is not perfectly efficient, the energy drawn from the wall — and billed by your retailer — is higher, and that is what this calculator prices.

What charging loss should I use?
Around 10% for AC home charging and roughly 5% for DC fast charging is a reasonable starting point.
Is charging cheaper overnight?
Usually yes on a time-of-use tariff, and effectively free if you charge from your own excess solar.
