How this calculator works
Most full-time and part-time employees in Australia accrue paid leave progressively throughout the year rather than receiving it all at once, based on their ordinary hours and length of service. This calculator estimates that accrual by multiplying weekly ordinary hours by the entitlement weeks per year (commonly four weeks for annual leave, or a different figure for personal or carer's leave), then applying the fraction of the year worked based on months of service, and subtracting any leave already taken. The result is shown in hours, an equivalent number of standard working days, and equivalent weeks, along with the dollar value at the entered hourly rate. Actual leave balances shown on a payslip may differ slightly depending on how an employer's payroll system rounds accruals or handles part-year and casual conversion arrangements, so treat this as an estimate to check against your payslip.
