Your results
Calculation breakdown

- Holiday budget − already saved
- Each saving

- Weekly equivalent
- Still to save ÷ weeks until travel (a month is 52 ÷ 12 weeks)
Worked example
Needing $4,000 with $500 already saved and 20 fortnights until departure means setting aside $175 per fortnight, the same as $87.50 a week over 40 weeks.
Assumptions
- Does not include interest earned on savings; see the Compound Interest calculator for that.
- Assumes the same amount is saved each week, fortnight or month.
- Monthly savings are converted to weeks using an average of 52 ÷ 12 weeks per month.
How this calculator works
Enter your holiday budget, what you've already saved and how long until you travel to see the regular amount you need to set aside each week, fortnight or month. This helps turn a lump-sum travel goal into a manageable savings habit.
Turn a holiday budget into a regular saving amount
Subtract what you have already saved from the total holiday budget, then divide the remainder by the number of weeks, fortnights or months left before you travel. Matching the saving frequency to your pay cycle makes the amount easier to transfer automatically.
For example, a $4,000 trip with $500 already saved and 20 fortnights to go needs $175 a fortnight. The weekly equivalent of $87.50 helps compare plans that use different saving frequencies.
Build a realistic holiday budget first
Include flights or fuel, accommodation, travel insurance, transfers, food, activities and a buffer for exchange-rate changes or surprises. The accommodation, flight arrival and road-trip fuel calculators can help price individual parts of the trip.
Keeping holiday savings in a separate account reduces the temptation to spend them. Interest is not included here, so any interest earned simply gives you a little extra room in the budget.

Frequently asked questions
Does this account for interest on my savings?
No, this is a simple savings-goal split. For interest on an existing balance, see the Compound Interest calculator.
What if I already have some money saved?
Enter it in the current savings field and the calculator will only split the remaining shortfall across your saving periods.
Can I use this for multiple trips in a year?
Run it separately for each trip using its own target date and budget, then add the periodic amounts together.
