How to split rent fairly between housemates
For an equal rent split, give every housemate the same weighting. For an unequal split, assign a higher weighting to a room with more floor space, an ensuite, a balcony, better storage or another feature the household agrees is worth more.
The calculator adds all three room weightings, divides each person's weighting by that total, then applies the resulting share to the rent. Because the same unit is used throughout, weightings such as 1, 1 and 1 work exactly like 100, 100 and 100.

Agree on shared spaces and bills separately
A room-based split is only one fair method. Housemates may prefer to divide part of the rent equally for shared spaces and divide the remainder by bedroom size or features. Discuss the method before signing or changing a household agreement.
This result divides rent only. Electricity, gas, water, internet, parking, bond and household purchases may need a separate equal or usage-based split. Record the agreed amounts so everyone can check the same calculation later.
