Worked example
Attending 24 of 28 classes gives 24 ÷ 28 × 100 ≈ 85.7% attendance so far. With 8 classes left and an 80% minimum across all 36 classes, you need 29 attended overall, so you must attend 5 of the remaining 8 and can miss up to 3.

- Every class counts equally; it does not handle rules that weight lectures, tutorials or practical sessions differently, or approved absences.
- The classes needed overall are rounded up to a whole class so the final rate meets the minimum.

How the attendance percentage and allowance are worked out
Your current attendance is the classes you have attended divided by the classes held so far. To see how many more you can miss, the calculator adds the remaining classes to find the full total, works out how many attended classes the minimum requires and rounds that up to a whole class.
For example, 24 of 28 classes is about 85.7%. With 8 classes left and an 80% rule, 80% of 36 classes is 28.8, so 29 attended classes are needed overall. You must attend 5 more and can miss up to 3 of the remaining 8.
Check your institution's attendance rule
Australian schools, TAFEs, universities and English-language providers set their own attendance requirements, and some apply them per unit, per class type or per study period. Approved absences, medical certificates and late arrivals may also be treated differently.
International students should also check the attendance expectations attached to their course and student visa with their provider. Use the result as a planning estimate and confirm your actual standing with your course coordinator or student services.
