Worked example
A student scores 7, 6 and 5 on three 6-credit-point subjects on the 7-point scale: (7×6 + 6×6 + 5×6) ÷ 18 = 6.0 GPA.
Assumptions
- The 7-point scale (7=High Distinction, 0=Fail) and 4-point scale are common Australian conventions; check your institution's own grading policy.
- Assumes each subject's grade has already been converted to the chosen point scale, not a raw percentage.
- Does not distinguish GPA from Weighted Average Mark (WAM), which uses raw percentage marks instead.

What's the difference between GPA and WAM?

Which scale does my university use?
Most Australian universities use a 7-point scale (7=HD, 6=D, 5=C, 4=P, 0=Fail), but check your institution's official grading policy as some use 4-point scales.
Can I add more than a few subjects?
