Worked example
A 14-day trip including 4 weekend days and 1 public holiday needs 9 days of annual leave from your balance.
Assumptions
- Assumes a standard Monday-to-Friday working pattern.
- Confirm actual leave requests and balances through your employer's normal process.
How this calculator works
Enter your trip length and how many weekend days and public holidays fall within it to see how many actual annual leave days you'll need to book. Compare that against your available leave balance to check you have enough.
Frequently asked questions
Why exclude weekends and public holidays?
You don't need to use paid leave for days you weren't rostered to work anyway, so excluding them shows the true leave cost of a trip.
What if my trip spans two leave years?
Split the calculation by leave year if your employer resets balances on a fixed date, and check each balance separately.
Does this calculator book leave for me?
No, it's a planning estimate only — confirm and request leave through your employer's normal process.
Actual entitlements can depend on your award, enterprise agreement, contract, employment status and individual circumstances.
